NC leaders, workers pay tributes to founder

SRINAGAR, Dec 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah stood for self-reliance, justice, and peace during a turbulent period in the subcontinent.
Speaking at a function at the Mausoleum of Abdullah, Chief Minister said Sher-e-Kashmir’s life and work remain a guiding force for the people of J&K. He said that his ideals would continue to inspire future generations.
Omar said Sheikh Abdullah envisioned a society rooted in dignity, equality, and communal harmony, and that his message continues to resonate across generations.
The Chief Minister who led the commemoration of the birth anniversary of the National Conference founder, paid homage at the mausoleum, recalling the iconic leader’s role in shaping Jammu and Kashmir’s political and social landscape.
The ruling National Conference (NC) also paid tributes to party founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 120th birth anniversary, with the leadership offering prayers and floral wreaths at his mausoleum in Naseem Bagh, Hazratbal.
NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Advisor to the CM Nasir Aslam Sogami, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, and several MLAs and party functionaries participated in the ceremony and offered Fateh Khawani.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said the day serves as a reminder of Sheikh Abdullah’s lifelong struggle for the rights, dignity, and empowerment of the people of J&K.
“The Sher-e-Kashmir’s policies and vision continue to inspire generations,” he said.
Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, popularly revered as Sher-e-Kashmir, is remembered for his transformative politics, emphasis on empowerment and social upliftment, and the lasting imprint he left on the region’s collective identity.
Special prayers were held, seeking peace for the departed soul and reaffirming a pledge to uphold the values Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah championed. A large number of people gathered at Naseem Bagh to honour Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s legacy and recall his contributions to Jammu and Kashmir’s political and social awakening. Party workers, supporters, and functionaries also paid rich tributes.
Though not present at the event, senior National Conference leader and Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah also paid tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, recalling the party founder’s “unwavering commitment to justice, dignity and the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Ruhullah said Sheikh Abdullah’s political journey embodied “courage, resilience and the collective aspirations” of the people. “He devoted his life to challenging oppression and dismantling structures of exploitation,” he said.
The MP said it was the responsibility of the present generation to uphold the values Sheikh Abdullah championed. “Let this day renew our commitment to unity, justice and democratic rights,” he added.
