JAMMU, Dec 4: AIIMS Jammu has announced plans to set up a Global Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, following a high-level delegation visit on 15 November by representatives from Axonic Health (UK) and Claidroid Technologies, including Dr Abhay Chopada, Prof (Dr) B L Raina and Vinay Sawarkar.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the Institute’s ongoing and upcoming AI initiatives. These include AI-powered diagnostics, predictive medicine, clinical decision support, surgical assistance, virtual care, and telemedicine systems. Executive Director Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta shared details of AIIMS Jammu’s broader digital transformation push and its vision to integrate advanced AI solutions across clinical and administrative functions.
Following the on-site discussions, a Zoom demonstration session was conducted for all HoDs and departmental teams at AIIMS Jammu. Led by Dr Abhay Chopada, the session showcased a wide range of AI-driven healthcare applications, offering clinicians and administrators a first-hand opportunity to explore practical use cases in patient care, training, and hospital operations.
The proposed Centre of Excellence is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery. AI-enabled tools are projected to make diagnosis and treatment faster, more accurate and more cost-effective, especially in specialties such as oncology, neurology, cardiology and emergency medicine. AI-based triaging systems will support clinicians in efficiently prioritizing critical cases and reducing patient waiting times.
Beyond clinical benefits, the Centre aims to serve as a global training hub, equipping doctors, nurses, technicians, and researchers with internationally benchmarked AI skills and certifications. This will help build a highly skilled workforce capable of safely integrating AI into routine medical practice. Claidroid Technologies has committed to supporting AIIMS Jammu’s digital transformation through its technological expertise and global partnerships.
Aligned with India’s national HealthTech vision and the broader ‘Digital Jammu’ initiative, the Centre will promote ethical, secure, and regulated AI deployment. International collaborations are expected to expand AI-enabled healthcare access to tier-3 towns and remote regions. Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta said the Centre will drive predictive, preventive, and precision-based care, setting new benchmarks for innovation in healthcare.
