IIM Jammu working with J&K Govt to cre

JAMMU, Dec 3: The IIT Jammu is currently home to 1, 546 students and is supported by more than 230 teaching and non-teaching staff.
This information was tabled in the upper house of the Parliament by Sukanta Majumdar, the Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Education, in response to an unstarred question of the Bhartiya Janata Party Member Parliament from Jammu, Sat Sharma, regarding the Government’s plans for expansion of IIT and IIM in Jammu.
The Union Minister said that the IIT Jammu has been growing steadily since its establishment was approved in 2015, and its permanent campus-built under Phase A with an allocation of Rs 1, 182.56 Crore-is now fully operational.
He said the Government has also cleared the Phase B expansion for third-generation IITs, under which the IIT Jammu will receive Rs 2,468.44 Crore to strengthen its academic and research facilities, including a dedicated research park for industry collaboration and student innovation.
Sharing details about the IIM Jammu, the Union Minister said, the institute, approved in 2016, currently has 1, 191 students enrolled across its programmes.
“The institute has expanded its academic offerings from 13 to 20 courses. It is also supporting the J&K Government’s Mission Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan (YUVA) to help created employment opportunities for 4.25 lakh unemployed youth over the next five years,” he said.
According to him, the infrastructure additions at IIM Jammu include new sports facilities, a hostel for 688 students, and an Open Air Theatre.
“Both institutes are also working jointly through an MoU signed in 2021, enabling collaboration in teaching, research, administrative support, and placements. They also offer a Dual Degree combining B.Tech at IIT Jammu with an MBA at IIM Jammu, along with a joint PG MBA (HAHM) programme in partnership with AIIMS Jammu,” said the Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar.
