JAMMU, Dec 3: Prof J P Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, has been conferred with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Association for Reliability and Statistics (IARS).
The honour was presented by Education Minister of Government of Haryana, Mahipal Dhanda and Chaudhary Dharambir Singh, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), in the presence of Prof Rajbir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak during an “International Conference on Global Advances in Statistical Modelling, Optimization Techniques, Data Science” at Rohtak.
The Lifetime Achievement Award to J P S Joorel was given in recognition of his outstanding and sustained contribution to teaching, research, and the development of higher education institutions in India,
A Professor of Statistics in JU, Prof Joorel has completed “Leadership for Academician Programme (LeAp)” at Monash University, Australia (Selected by Ministry of Education, Govt of India). He has successfully headed the INFLIBNET Centre (An Autonomous Inter-University Centre of University Grants Commission, Ministry of Education, Govt of India) Gandhinagar, Gujarat as Director (Vice Chancellor’s Rank) for five years.
He has vast exposure to working in national bodies dealing with academic and educational growth of the institutions of higher learning.
He has also contributed as Member in the Expert Group on “Technology Use and Integration” for Formulation and drafting Implementation Plan, drafting guidelines for setting up Research & Development Cell in HEIs and framing guidelines for Research Internship with Faculty and Researchers at HEIs constituted by the UGC for Implementation of National Education Policy-2020, Expert Committee to Look into Various Matters Related to Accreditation NAAC and headed the Expert Committee to Carry out the System and Process Audit of NAAC. He remained Chairperson of NAAC Peer Team of several Colleges and Universities for their accreditation. He also remained Member of Search Committees for the appointment of Vice Chancellors of Universities in India.
