Narcotics worth Rs 9.68 cr seized in Udhampur this year

UDHAMPUR, Dec 1: Under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan this year, Udhampur Police registered a total of 140 NDPS cases, leading to the arrest of 199 persons – including 180 under NDPS and 19 under PIT NDPS/PSA.
According to Police, 68 vehicles used in narcotic smuggling were seized, while 11 pharmacy shops were sealed for violations related to H1 drugs.
The total value of contraband seized in the black market during this period stands at an estimated Rs 9.68 crore, comprising heroin – 1 kg 347 grams; Charas – 2 kg 310 grams; poppy Straw – 228 kg 231 grams and cannabis – 1 kg 64 grams
Moreover, illicit opium cultivation spread over two kanal and 10 marlas of land was also destroyed in the Panchari area.
In a major financial crackdown, 56 bank accounts of drug peddlers were frozen, involving a total of Rs 17,59,893. Furthermore, properties worth Rs 16.50 crore – including 15 residential houses, 02 shops, 01 flat, 44 vehicles, 04 saving accounts and 5 kanal 06 marlas of land were attached under NDPS provisions.
On the prosecution front, 51 cases culminated in 64 convictions, reflecting the effectiveness of professional investigation and legal follow-up by Udhampur Police.
In addition, 05 shops and 01 residential house illegally constructed through proceeds of narco trade were demolished at NHW Chenani.
