SRINAGAR, Nov 28: The Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committee (UTLBC) today conducted mega financial facilitation camps in Kathua, Kulgam, Kupwara and Doda under the national campaign “Apki Poonji, Apka Adhikar – Your Money, Your Right”.
The initiative aimed at helping citizens trace and reclaim unclaimed bank deposits, dormant insurance amounts, inactive mutual funds, unclaimed shares, dividends and other long-pending financial assets.
The campaign is being carried out by the Department of Financial Services in coordination with RBI, IRDAI, SEBI and IEPFA. All four camps witnessed good public participation, with officials from district administration, banks and financial institutions providing on-the-spot assistance.
In Kathua, the camp was organised by the Lead Bank Office and presided over by the Deputy Commissioner concerned.
RBI representatives highlighted that the UT has over 17 lakh unclaimed accounts, including more than 94 thousand in Kathua.
Participants were briefed on claim procedures, and banks set up service counters for re-KYC and other services.
Cheques worth Rs 3.78 lakh were distributed to 41 beneficiaries after verification.
The facilitation camp in Kulgam saw participation from J&K Bank, RBI, NABARD and major insurance companies.
Officials guided citizens on reclaiming deposits, insurance proceeds, shares and mutual funds.
Kulgam has over 35 thousand unclaimed accounts, and the camp helped settle six cases worth Rs 5.12 lakh. Earlier, 34 accounts had already been settled in the district.
The Kupwara camp, held at MC Town Hall, brought together district officials, RBI representatives, banks and insurance companies.
Awareness sessions were conducted on tracing unclaimed assets and using the RBI’s UDGAM portal.
The district has over 80 thousand unclaimed accounts worth Rs 14.49 crore, and officials urged citizens to proactively check their financial dues.
In Doda, the camp was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner, with participation from RBI and various banks.
Citizens were sensitised about documents required for claims and shown live demonstrations of the UDGAM portal.
Doda has 46 thousand unclaimed accounts, and the camp facilitated settlement of 32 accounts, with cheques amounting to Rs 2.35 lakh handed over to the beneficiaries.
Officials across all four districts appreciated the coordinated efforts of financial institutions and stressed the need for continued outreach to help people reclaim what is rightfully theirs.
