UDHAMPUR, Nov 28: Police arrested an inter-state narcotic smuggler from Chenani and recovered more than 27 kg poppy straw from his possession.
The accused, identified as Bikram Singh, son of Jaipal, resident of Phirni Majra, Tehsil Balachaur, District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Punjab, was driving a black Swift Dzire (PB32K- 0399) from Srinagar towards Udhampur. The car was stopped by a Police team of PS Chenani, led by SHO Raghubir Singh, while performing routine checking at Nakka Motor Shed, NHW Chenani.
During the search, two plastic bags containing a total of 27.05 kg of poppy straw were recovered from the vehicle following which the driver was arrested on the spot.
Police also seized the recovered poppy straw as well as the vehicle and registered case FIR number 124/2025, under section 8/15 NDPS Act in this connection at Police Station Chenani. Further investigation is in progress to ascertain backward and forward linkages of the seized narcotics.
