RAMBAN, Nov 26: Alleging discrimination in the recent MBBS admission row, the newly formed Ramban unit of the Sangharsh Samiti (SS) today staged a protest against the authorities of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra.
The protesters accused the University of giving preference to candidates from a specific community while neglecting Hindu community.
They raised slogans against the SMVDU authorities demanding transparency in admissions and called for an immediate review of the selection procedure.
Earlier, Surinder Singh announced the formal establishment of the Ramban district unit of the SS, adding that he had been unanimously appointed as its District president.
Singh said, “The unit was formed to safeguard the rights of Hindu candidates.”
He said, “We strongly object to the manner in which MBBS admissions are being made at the University. Candidates from our community are being ignored. This biased approach must stop immediately.”
Singh further claimed that “42 out of 50 MBBS seats have been allotted to a particular community,” arguing that the university, being funded by Hindu devotees, should “safeguard the rights of its own devotees. The Samiti would not accept what he described as unfair interference in the admission process.”
The protestors further urged the administration to re-examine the recent admission procedures and ensure fair opportunities for Hindu candidates.
They warned that if their concerns were not addressed promptly, they would approach higher authorities for intervention.
