EPFO organizes seminar for trade unions on four Labour Codes

JAMMU, Nov 25: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), Regional Office Jammu, organized a seminar to brief and sensitize representatives of various trade unions on the provisions of the four Labour Codes enacted by the Parliament of India.
The programme was convened with the objective of enhancing awareness among worker representatives and facilitating informed engagement with the evolving labour and social security framework.
The seminar was attended by Nar Singh Narania, president, Jammu division, J&K State Centre Labour Union, Ashok Choudhary, organizing secretary, BMS J&K and Ladakh, Harbans Choudhary, senior official, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, J&K and Ladakh, Deep Mehra, secretary, Kishtwar Province, J&K State Centre Labour Union and Ajaz Ahmed, district president, Kishtwar, J&K State Centre Labour Unio.n
The programme was chaired by the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner (RPFC)–I, Sumeet Singh, who delivered an overview of the legislative reforms undertaken through the following enactments: the Code on Wages, 2019; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Code on Social Security, 2020 and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020.
The RPFC-I highlighted that these codes consolidate and rationalize multiple central labour laws with a view to simplifying compliance, strengthening social security and improving working conditions for employees across diverse sectors.
EPFO Jammu showcased the salient provisions of each code, with particular emphasis on matters relating to wages, industrial relations, social security benefits and occupational safety, health and welfare measures.
The Code on Wages was discussed in the context of minimum wages and payment of wages; Industrial Relations Code was explained with reference to dispute resolution mechanisms; Code on Social Security was elaborated upon in relation to coverage under provident fund, pension and insurance schemes; and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code was presented with focus on statutory duties of employers regarding safety, health and working conditions at establishments.
The seminar was also attended by Satya Prakash, Assistant P F Commissioner, Devinder Singh, Enforcement Officer and Balkrishan, Enforcement Officer.
