JAMMU, Nov 24: A Territorial Army (TA) jawan was found dead under suspicious circumstances after sustaining gunshot wounds at Military Cantonment Kaluchak here, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Naik Govind Singh, 35, son of Kunwar Singh, a resident of Kushmara in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He was posted with 76 Medium Regiment and currently deployed at 56 APO Kaluchak.
Officials said the incident took place on Sunday evening.
They said after hearing the gunshot, other soldiers rushed to the spot and found Govind Singh lying in a pool of blood inside the Cantonment.
He was immediately taken to Military Hospital Satwari, where he succumbed during the treatment, they said.
Following the incident, Military authorities informed the Gangyal Police Station, who took custody of the body and launched a probe, officials said.
Meanwhile, police have shifted the body to the Government Medical College Jammu for conducting the post-mortem examination and initiated inquest proceedings to further probe into the matter.
