Priya, others pay tributes to decorated soldier

JAMMU, Nov 22: The 62nd death anniversary of General Bikram Singh was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour here, today.
In this connection a grand function was organised by General Bikram Singh Yaadgar Committee at Bikram Chowk here under the stewardship of Jasmeet Singh, general secretary of the organisation.
Former Minister and vice president J&K BJP, Priya Sethi was the chief guest on the occasion. She paid glowing tributes to General Bikram Singh and termed him a dedicated and disciplined Army General for whom national unity and integrity was of paramount importance.
She said General Bikram Singh never compromised on his principles and for him the nation was above all. Terming him a great martyr who laid down his life in service of nation, Priya Sethi said the Government led by Narendra Modi has decided to give due place to the martyrs in the history of country by highlighting their supreme sacrifices so that a spirit of nationalism and patriotism is imbibed among the younger generations.
Jasmeet Singh general secretary of the Committee said that General Bikram Singh was a renowned personality of Indian Army who died in an air crash on November 22 in 1963in Poonch Sector while on a secret mission of Indian Army. He was accompanied by four generals including, Lt Gen Daulat Singh, Air Marshal E W Pintoo, Maj Gen K N D Nanavati and Brig S R Oberoi with flight Lt S S Sodhi.
Kanchan Singh another speaker on the occasion said Gen Bikram Singh was a dedicated personality who used to visit the Army canteen to check the quality of food being served to the army personnel, as he was of the opinion that if the soldiers are strong and healthy, the nation will be strong and healthy. He further said Gen, Bikram Singh rendered his services to the nation till his death.
Charanjeet Singh Raina, president of General Bikram Singh Yaadgar Committee proposed the vote of thanks.
Those who attended the function included Paramjeet Singh Raina, ex councillor, Parveen Sharma chairman , Citizens Cooperative Bank, Jammu, Deepak Gupta, president Traders Federation, Ware House Jammu Kamaljeet Singh, co convener, Transport Cell BJP and many others.
