“Khalaar” is a captivating anthology of free verse poetry in Dogri by Jagmohann Sharma ‘YoonHee’ that takes readers on a journey through the complexities of life, love, and human relationships. With 41 poems that touch on vivid themes, this collection is a treasure of emotions, reflections, and insights.
The poet’s writing style is simple yet powerful, making it easy for readers to connect with the meaningful messages conveyed in each poem. The themes explored in the book are diverse, wide- ranging from the importance of living in harmony with nature to the significance of respecting women, particularly mothers. The poems also touch on the ups and downs of life, the futility of show-offs, and the value of helping those in need.
Thought Provoking
What stands out about this collection is the poet’s ability to evoke emotions and spark reflection in the readers. These poems are thought-provoking, and the language is evocative, making it easy to aptly visualize the scenes and the emotions described.
The price of the book though seems high at first glance, its cover impresses but have a look at rising cost of production , quality of literary verses and once you hold the book in your hands and read it, certainly one has altogether a feeling. It is like visiting a small restaurant or luxury hotel and feel the difference in the ambiance, the facilities, and the services. This is not just reflected in the book’s binding, cover page, quality of paper, content material but also in the way each composition and thought is crafted.
The scope and caliber of the ideas are truly unique, distinct, and elevated. Mr Sharma’s thoughts as reflected in his poetry, offer a refreshing perspective that diverges from the usual Dogri poetry!
Intimate Human Relationship
The poet envisions a society where human relationships are warm and nurturing, where there’s love and respect for the natural charm ; women are empowered and high in high esteem. The Dogri verses encourages all the readers to appreciate ” the small joys in life and not get lost in the pursuit of grand successes.”
The cover of the book is particularly striking, capturing the essence of the poet’s imagination and emotions. The illustrations evoke a sense of youthful energy, love, longing, and the innocence of childhood.
Simplicity, Elegance
Some of the poems which particularly impressed me are: “Disneyland Jan Eh Ghar”, “Danaa Dikho Te Sehi Iney Chidiyen Gi”, “Annpoorna”, and the title poem “Khalaar”. In addition, I liked ‘Holi Da Mera Rang’, ‘Rishten Diyan Tandaan’, ‘Khushi Te Sandokh’, ‘ Bhulleya Kish Bi Nei Aan Mein’ and ‘Rabb Kola Kee Daraan Mein’ and others. These poems showcase the poet’s mastery over language and his ability to convey complex emotions with simplicity and elegance.
“The foreword ” of this book has been written by Professor Veena Gupta, a renowned Dogri stalwart and Sahitya Akademi Awardee in Dogri Literature and former HoD, Dogri Deptt, JU ,is in itself a major feature work and adds immense value to the beauty of this poetry collection. Brief writings about poet’s creations and this book are a testament to Professor Gupta’s expertise as a seasoned linguist, who has managed to encapsulate the essence of the book in a few words.
Enjoyable Reading.
