S. Korea, UAE planning to jointly produce, supply weapons to 3rd countries

SEOUL, Nov 19: South Korea and the United Arab Emirates will consider a plan for the joint development and supply of weapons to third countries, the Yonhap news agency reported, citing the chief of staff of the South Korean president, Kang Hoon-sik.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is on a state visit to the UAE from November 17 to 19. On Tuesday, the South Korean leader held talks with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, after which the parties signed seven memoranda of understanding, providing for cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and AI infrastructure, nuclear energy, and the peaceful exploration of outer space.
In addition, the countries will establish a full-value chain cooperation model in the defense industry, which will increase the likelihood of South Korean companies receiving defense industry orders worth over USD 15 billion, the report said on Tuesday.
Kang reportedly noted that such a project could also pave the way for South Korean companies to expand their presence not only in the Middle East and Africa, but also in Europe, North America, and other regions.
