KUPWARA, Nov 16: Members of the Sanatan Dharam Sabha Handwara have expressed gratitude to the administration after a piece of temple land, encroached for nearly 36 years, was reclaimed following the intervention of senior officials.
Surendra Pandita, vice president of the Sanatana Dharam Sabha, said the land had long been occupied by a poultry seller who operated from the site for decades.
He said that with the personal involvement of the Lieutenant Governor’s office and the SSP, the land has now been restored to its rightful custodians.
Surendra further noted that another encroached stretch-54 Kanals of Shimshan Bhoomi (cremation ground) in Rajdhan Mohalla-has been assured for clearance soon, with officials indicating that action could begin as early as Monday.
Highlighting the administration’s continued support, he said district authorities have consistently assisted the community during major religious events such as Mata Badrakali celebrations, Ganesh Mandir functions, and Havans, ensuring smooth arrangements each time.
Ashok Kumar, another Sabha member, also thanked the administration and acknowledged the role of concerned officers in facilitating the removal of the encroachment.
Community members concluded by expressing appreciation to the Government for addressing their long-pending concern and restoring the temple land after nearly four decades.
