Mian Altaf meets DG BRO, discusses road infra projects

SRINAGAR, Nov 16 : In what could be a major relief for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the maintenance and upgradation work on the Jammu-Poonch highway is expected to be expedited soon.
The assurance about this was made by the Director General of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to the Member of Parliament from Anantnag-Rajouri, Mian Altaf Ahmad.
The MP met the Director General of BRO in Delhi and discussed various issues related to road infrastructure projects in border and hilly areas of Rajouri, Poonch districts those connecting them with the other parts of Jammu and Kashmir and looked after by the BRO for maintenance.
In a statement issued here, Mian Altaf said that he discussed in detail the slow pace of work on the vital 240 km long Jammu-Poonch highway entrusted to the Project Beacon of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for its maintenance and apprised the BRO Chief about the difficulties being faced by the people of these twin border districts due to the bad condition of the road.
Altaf also raised the issue about the closure of atleast three small tunnels along this stretch that would ease the travel and make it convenient. “These small tunnels earlier remained open however, they have been closed causing more inconvenience to the travelellers” he said.
The DG BRO assured that road from Akhnoor to Sunderbani and from Manjakote to Poonch will be completed on priority besides expedite the work on Thannamandi- Bafliaz road. DG also said that a review of the road maintenance work will be carried soon along with the officials of the BRO who will accompany the Member of Parliament Anantnag-Rajouri and any issues on ground will be discussed for immediate resolve.
