RAJOURI, Nov 14: Residents of Shahdra Sharief today staged a massive protest against the local administration and the Public Works Department (PWD), accusing the concerned authorities of using substandard material in the ongoing repair/ macadamization work on the local link road in the area.
The protesters assembled in large number and raised slogans demanding accountability and immediate intervention from senior officials. They alleged that despite multiple complaints, no proper inspection has been conducted by higher authorities, allowing the use of poor-quality material to continue unchecked.
Locals expressed deep resentment over what they termed as negligence in public works and urged the administration to strictly monitor all developmental activities to ensure quality standards. They demanded stringent action against the involved officials and contractors. They pointed out that black- topping of the road started yesterday and today the top black surface started damaging. The new top layer of the road has peeled off at many places.
Protesters called for halting any payments related to the current work, cancellation of the contract, and a thorough independent inquiry to fix responsibility for the use of substandard material. They emphasized that the work must be immediately reviewed to prevent long-term damage and public inconvenience. The villagers forced the contractor to stop work on the road till the senior officials intervene.
They also warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, they will be compelled to intensify their agitation in the coming days.
