Police installs GPS tracking anklet on NDPS accused

UDHAMPUR, Nov 14: Udhampur Police today installed a GPS-enabled tracking anklet on an NDPS accused who has been granted bail by the Court of the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur.
The device has been affixed in compliance with the court’s order to ensure continuous monitoring of the accused’s movements.
A GPS tracker anklet is a wearable electronic device secured around the ankle, enabling real-time location tracking and ensuring strict adherence to bail conditions.
As per case details, FIR No. 292/2025 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act and Section 111 BNS was registered at Police Station Udhampur. The accused, Mukhtar Ahmed, son of Mohd Rashid, resident of Karmara, District Poonch, had applied for bail and the court directed the installation of a GPS-enabled anklet as a mandatory condition.
Udhampur police is the first in Jammu division, to utilise modern technology in the shape of GPS anklets for stringent surveillance on narcotics offenders.
