UDHAMPUR, Nov 13: MLA Udhampur East Ranbir Singh Pathania has expressed serious concern over the delay in providing relief and rehabilitation to families affected by flash floods and heavy rains that hit the region in August this year.
Pathania said it was unfortunate that even after three months, many families whose houses were severely damaged have not received any compensation.
He said the delay was “unjust” to the affected families who are struggling to rebuild their lives.
He pointed out that several people shifted to temporary relief camps after the floods have now returned to unsafe houses, putting their lives at risk.
He criticized the administration for failing to ensure safe rehabilitation and timely assistance.
Pathania also highlighted the slow pace of restoration works, saying water supply schemes remain disrupted and permanent repairs under PWD and PMGSY have yet to start.
He said priority sectors such as health and education have not received restoration funds, causing hardships due to damaged roads and broken infrastructure.
The BJP MLA urged the District Administration and the UT Government to expedite relief and restoration measures, release compensation immediately, and restore essential services like roads and water supply.
He stressed that timely action was vital to bring normalcy and prevent further suffering.
Later, Pathania inaugurated Rs 34 lakh library at High School Johnu under the PM SHRI Programme.
He said the school would soon have new computer labs, smart classrooms, and a modern playground. He also announced funds from his Constituency Development Fund for the road stretch up to GHSS Johnu and directed the PWD to expedite the work.
