Police crack down on drug peddlers in Anantnag, three held

ANANTNAG, Nov 12: In a major action against drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police today arrested three peddlers and recovered a large quantity of contraband substances in two separate operations in the Anantnag district.
A police official said during a naka checking near Methmoo Crossing, a team from Police Station Uttrasoo intercepted a suspect carrying a nylon sack.
On seeing the police, he tried to flee but was caught, said the police official.
According to him, the accused, identified as Dilpazeer Khan alias Gojjar Bama of Sanglan Uttrasoo, was found carrying 3.140 kilograms of grinded cannabis (Bhang Bhoosa).
Accordingly, he said, a case under the NDPS Act was registered against the accused at Police Station Uttrasoo, and further investigation set into motion.
In another operation, the police official said, a party from Police Station Dooru stopped two suspects during checking and recovered 750 grams of ganja-like substance and 410 grams of poppy straw from their possession.
They were identified as Sharoof Ahmad Wagay of Guchan and Mohammad Yaseen Shah of Tamboripora.
He said the duo was booked under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Dooru and further investigation taken up.
