HC nabbed, PSI detained by CBI

JAMMU, Nov 11: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a Head Constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

A Probationer Sub-Inspector (PSI) ranked officer was also detained by the Central agency for questioning in connection with the incident.
Sources said Head Constable Riyaz Ahmed, posted at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu, has been arrested on the complaint of a restaurant owner, who had been named as an accused in a case being handled by the former, with PSI Vijay Goswami as IO of that case.
According to them, Riyaz was demanding a bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the restaurant owner for removing the latter’s name from the case.
They said after a written complaint was lodged with the CBI, a trap was laid and Head Constable Riyaz Ahmed was arrested red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount.
Following the incident, sources said that PSI Vijay Goswami was also detained by the sleuths of CBI for questioning in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway, sources added.
