JAMMU, Nov 11: A meeting was held today by members of Durga Nagar Welfare Coordination Committee (DNWCC) including Sanjay Ganjoo, Behari Lal, M.K. Razdhan, and Ashwani Kak with officers of the Jal Shakti Department, including AEEs, JEs, and supervisors of the Civil and Mechanical wings of the area.
During the meeting a detailed and threadbare discussion on various pressing issues concerning the water supply system of the locality were discussed.
The DNWCC highlighted the persistent shortage of drinking water and demanded measures for immediate relief. Concern was shown regarding dirty and contaminated drinking water being supplied in the area due to leakages in water supply pipes. DNWCC emphasized the need for welding-based repairs to ensure long-term rectification instead of temporary fixes.
They said the main water lifting motor, which has remained out of order for a considerable time, needs urgent repair. The substitute motor currently in operation is unable to lift water efficiently.
It was also suggested that water lifting operations should start at 12:30 PM instead of 4:00 PM to alleviate the existing crisis.
On-the-spot directions were issued by officers to keep the Rajinder Nagar Tube Well on automation mode for 20 hours daily instead of manual control, to ensure uninterrupted functioning.
The Committee said the additional pipeline layout from CPS Muthi to Muthi Gaon, intended for the upper areas, remains pending for installation of two motors. Though tenders have already been floated, the Department was urged to ensure early execution of the work.
DNWCC reiterated the need for an additional water storage tank of 1.5 lakh gallons capacity and sought prompt departmental action on the proposal already submitted.
The Civil and Mechanical Wings pointed out that the MU9 feeder supplying the Muthi Pump Station frequently faces power disruptions. The matter has already been taken up with the PDD for declaring it under essential services, and will now be jointly pursued by DNWCC and the Department.
The DNWCC members demanded that the issues be redressed within 15 days. If satisfactory progress is not observed within this period, the Committee will decide its next course of action accordingly, it said.
