2 terrorists killed in Kupwara

Srinagar, Nov 8: Army today foiled an infiltration bid by killing two terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Kupwara district.

An Army official said that the troops on the basis of specific information about the infiltration attempt from the other side launched a counter-infiltration ‘Operation Pimple’.
“Alert troops detected suspicious movement in the area and challenged the infiltrators, who opened fire. Soldiers retaliated, leading to an exchange of fire in which two terrorists were killed,” the official added.

Meanwhile, Army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps in a statement said that two terrorists were neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation, and searches are in progress.
An official said that the operation, launched jointly by the Army and the Border Security Force (BSF), involved the use of drones and other surveillance equipment to monitor the terrain.
He said troops along the LoC remain on high alert. “Security forces have foiled every infiltration attempt so far and continue to maintain strict vigil,” the official added.
In the meantime, security forces today launched Operation Hajitra to thwart narcotics smuggling attempt in Tangdhar area of Kupwara.
Army said that they along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Border Security Force, successfully recovered suspected narcotics in Tangdhar, Kupwara, through an intelligence-driven operation.
“Subsequent to intelligence received from Police Station Taad, a  search operation (CASO), was launched in Hajitra village. During the search conducted as part of the operation, a discreetly concealed package containing approximately 800 grams of a brown solid substance (suspected to be high-grade heroin) was discovered,” the army said.
“The recovery was made from the residence of Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, located in Sheikh Mohalla, Ward No 1.  A comprehensive investigation and appropriate legal proceedings in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been initiated by Police authorities. This operation serves as a salient illustration of the robust synergy and effective coordination that exists among the various security agencies operating in the region. The successful outcome of operation reinforces the collective resolve to dismantle illicit networks and safeguard the community from the detrimental effects of narcotics trafficking. The ongoing efforts of these agencies are crucial in maintaining law and order and preventing the proliferation of illegal substances in the region.”
