SRINAGAR, Nov 8: A meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Pensioners & Senior Citizens Welfare Society was held at Sumbal Sonawari under the chairmanship of Sheikh Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shalwati, general secretary of the Society which was attended by pensioners from various departments.
Central president of the Society, Mir Ghulam Rasool Batwini, addressed the gathering and strongly urged the J&K Government to redress the long-pending grievances of pensioners and employees.
He criticized the anti-people policies of both the UT and the Central Government, stating that “Ladakh UT and Central Government employees are receiving Rs 1000 as Medical Allowance, while J&K UT pensioners and employees continue to be ignored which is discrimination.”
He demanded release of 18% Dearness Allowance (DA) withheld during the 2020-21 COVID period, discontinuation of commutation recovery after 11 years in line with court rulings, immediate release of pension, gratuity commutation, GP Fund and other arrears of pensioners pending in Government treasuries.
He also demanded early constitution of the 8th Central Pay Commission, due from January 2026, measures to control the continuous rise in prices, which is severely affecting poor and low-income groups.
The meeting said that providing of Digital Life Certificate ( DLC) by pensioners in the month of Nov 2025 is a good step but it is difficult for those who can’t operate Android Cell Phone as there are lakhs of pensioners who are illiterate and can’ t use digital system Therefore old practice of life certificate should be kept operational so that old age pensioners may not feel inconvenience while submitting Life Certificate during Nov 2025.
