NEW YORK, Nov 8: US President Donald Trump’s statement on resuming nuclear testing is a matter of “grave concern,” though its full implications remain unclear, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia told RIA Novosti.
“In response to our testing of new cruise missiles and nuclear-capable underwater weapons, President Trump stated that the United States is considering resuming nuclear testing. This is a serious statement. The consequences are still unknown,” Nebenzia said.
He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin convened a meeting of the Russian Security Council, emphasizing that such statements must be taken “seriously.”
Nebenzia added, “We must be prepared for such a development.” Last week, Trump said he had instructed the Department of War to immediately resume nuclear testing, citing the testing activities of other nations and stating it was “appropriate” for the US to keep pace.
