No resolution of Pandits’ rehabilitation taken up during Assembly session: KPS

JAMMU, Nov 1: The Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) Jammu held a meeting of it’s Executive Committee under the chairmanship of K. K. Khosa its president, to discuss the deliberations of the recent short session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly especially relating to the welfare of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits leading a life of exile away from the land of their forefathers for the past thirty-six years.
The members were deeply disappointed over the fact that no bill or even a resolution was presented before the Assembly regarding the core issue of the community’s return and rehabilitation in Kashmir. The ruling National Conference had flagged the issue of return and rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandits in their manifesto during the election held in 2024 but even after one year of being in office, not even a mention about this core issue was made during this session. However the members were highly elated and encouraged over the rejection of a private member’s bill unanimously, which had sought to legalize the illegal usurpation and occupation of properties by unscrupulous persons of which they have been in possession for more than 30 years.
They expressed their gratitude towards all the members of the Legislative Assembly cutting across parties for their wisdom and prudence. The Sabha was highly critical about the diabolical nature of the rejected bill in view of the fact that the proposed time-line of 30 years was indicative of the dubious intention of it’s presenter regarding the usurped properties particularly belonging to the displaced community of KPs. The members expressed gratefulness to the UT Government for it’s sagacity in having forwarded the proposal for enhancement of relief amount to the GOI. The Sabha appealed the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Home Minister, Amit shah to kindly increase the amount of relief being paid to the displaced community adequately at the earliest so that they are able to make both ends meet during these trying times and lead a decent life.
