Sir,
Apropos the news item, appearing in your 28 Oct. DE, the recommendations of the panel regarding doubling of the salary of MLAs, provision of Rs. 75 lakh for house loan and RS.25 lakh as car advance, is widely hailed and lauded in the political circles in general and the legislators in particular. There are many proverbs about the selfishness of the human like, to grind about one’s own axis, making hey while the sun shines, feathering one’s own nest and many more which fit accurately in the case of our MLAs. Whereas on the one hand, our MLAs and MPs who often create pandemonium, stage walk outs, disrupt the proceedings of the houses, hurl chairs and mikes upon each other, tear the business papers of the houses, use filthy languages against each other or come to blows whenever a bill pertaining to the welfare, benefits of the people or that of development and the national security related matters come for discussion in the house, on the other one cannot help appreciate the spirit of maintaining silenjce discipline and peace in the house, the forbearance, patience and open mindedness and team spirit our legislators and parliamentarians exhibit while the bills or recommendation pertaining to the hike in their salaries, perks and allowances are brought in the house for discussion. Hats off for our representatives who pass and clear such bills with one voice, and without any amendments.
Jammu and Kashmir is reeling under acute shortage of basic amenities, poverty, un employment, non connectivity, less avenues of employment, where the pensioners are not paid their emoluments even after years together, when there are liabilities against the UT government, where the youth is working on Rs. 500 per month in government offices, where the youth working in various departments of the UT are getting salary less than 8000 for the last 15 years without their regularization. An ordinary citizens is tired to arrange a small loan for their urgent and immediate needs , when many citizens are compelled to get loan against their gold. But in spite of this the bread of our representatives is being buttered both sides, the doors of state coffers are thrown open for extravagance of the MLAs and MPs. Male Muft Dil Be Reham, Easy Got Easy Spent.
