India’s firm stand on US challenge

Sir,
The recent strain in Indo-U.S. relations must be seen in perspective. History shows that India has weathered such phases before—be it during the 1971 Bangladesh war or after the nuclear tests of the 1980s when sanctions were imposed. Each time, India stood firm and eventually regained a balanced partnership with the U.S.
Today, the Modi Government’s refusal to yield on issues like oil imports from Russia reflects the same resolve. A majority of Indians support this stand, believing that our sovereignty in trade and foreign policy cannot be compromised under external pressure. It is ironic that the U.S. itself continues imports from Russia while attempting to restrict India.
India’s independent position in BRICS, its balanced approach to China, and its long-standing ties with Russia highlight a foreign policy rooted in self-reliance and national interest. Standing firm today will secure India’s dignity and global credibility tomorrow.
