Srinagar, Oct 19: The three-day 8th J&K Orthopaedic Association Conference (JKOACON) 2025 concluded today at the Bone and Joint Hospital, Barzulla, bringing together leading orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, and professionals.
The conference was inaugurated by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, who said the Government is committed to advancing specialty healthcare and fostering academic collaboration in J&K.
She lauded the orthopaedic fraternity for its dedication to clinical excellence, innovation, and service delivery, stressing the importance of academic platforms in promoting evidence-based practices and inter-institutional synergy.
Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr Syed Abid Rashid, emphasised sustained investment in medical education, skill-building and research infrastructure.
Organising Chairperson Dr Altaf Kawoosa said the conference served as a platform for professionals to share expertise, foster innovation, and strengthen commitment to improving orthopaedic care in J&K.
Prominent speakers included IOA President-elect Dr Navin Thakkar, IOA Secretary-General Dr Rajeev Raman, and renowned arthroplasty expert Dr Rakesh Rajput.
A lifetime achievement award was conferred on veteran orthopaedician and former HoD, Dr Manzoor A. Halwai, for his contribution to orthopaedic care in the region.
In a symbolic gesture promoting community health, the conference concluded with a “Marathon for Healthy Joints,” highlighting the importance of mobility and active lifestyles.
Dr Iftikhar Wani, Joint Organising Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating participants, sponsors, and organisers for making JKOACON 2025 a success.
