JAMMU, Oct 18: In a moment of great pride and reverence, R K Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) was today conferred the prestigious Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh.
The degree was conferred to Tyagi in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the growth of the power sector in India and his exemplary achievements in the fields of electrical engineering, science and technology.
The honorary doctorate was bestowed upon Tyagi by Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, during the 55th Convocation Ceremony of the institution held in Chandigarh.
An alumnus of PEC, R K Tyagi holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in Energy Studies from IIT Delhi.
He is also a distinguished Fulbright Scholar from Carnegie Mellon University, USA.
With over 35 years of rich experience in the power sector, Tyagi has held key leadership roles in major Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs). Before assuming charge as CMD, he served as Director (Operations), POWERGRID, where he spearheaded several critical initiatives in asset management, engineering, business development (domestic and international), telecom, load dispatch and communication, NTAMC and distribution management systems (DMS).
He also led POWERGRID’s North Eastern Region, driving infrastructure expansion and operational excellence.
