DIG JSK range reviews security, border preparedness in Kathua

KATHUA, Oct 18: In a major security review exercise, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, today conducted a comprehensive meeting on operational preparedness and border management in the Kathua district.
During his visit, the DIG held detailed deliberations with SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma, SP Operations Mukund, SP Operations Amir Billawar, ASP Kathua Rahul, SDPOs of Border, Billawar, Basohli, and Kathua.
The meeting focused on the prevailing security scenario and preparedness for the forthcoming festivals.
The DIG interacted with police personnel and Village Defence Group (VDG) members in sensitive areas, directing them to strengthen joint nakas for better coordination.
He reviewed the border security grid, emphasizing the need to enhance surveillance infrastructure and inter-agency cooperation to effectively counter cross-border threats.
Sharma also visited various Border Police Posts (BPPs), instructing officers to ensure timely redressal of public grievances and to remain extra vigilant during night hours.
He stressed the importance of maintaining a close watch on anti-social and anti-national elements and urged the public to share timely information with the police.
Later, the DIG visited the Tapan BOP post in Hiranagar, where he met BSF officers and jawans and shared Diwali sweets with them.
He highlighted the importance of inter-agency coordination, real-time intelligence sharing, and use of technology-driven surveillance to secure sensitive areas of Kathua and Samba districts, which remain vulnerable to cross-border infiltration and smuggling attempts.
