JAMMU, Oct 16: Kashmir Pandits today demanded implementation of Immovable Migrant Property Act 1997 in letter and spirit.
In a statement issued here, Vinod Pandita and Sunil Pandita the socio-political activists said the Act was solely made for preservation, protection and restoration of illegally occupied migrant properties from the clutches of encroachers and land mafia by J&K Legislative Assembly in 1997, despite passing more than two decades, this law has not been implemented in letter and spirit and with the result thousand of Kanals of migrant land mostly in rural areas has been encroached by land grabbers and anti social elements.
They said the migrants are running from the pillar to post in the office of district collectors/tehsildars and Patwaris in the Valley to retrieve their land but due to deep rooted nexus between land grabbers and lower revenue officials, nothing tangible seems to have come out of their struggle so far.
The duo have appealed to all the deputy commissioners of Kashmir Valley who are the sole custodians of migrant property to expedite the migrant grievances on fast track with accountability for sake of justice and equity.
They expressed grave concern over the deliberate delay in the migrant land cases and with the result countless cases are pending for final disposal which needs to be looked into seriously and thoroughly.
