“A historic boost for Ayurveda in J&K”

Sir,
The approval of seven postgraduate Ayurveda courses at Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Akhnoor, is a historic leap for Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare landscape. For the first time, local aspirants will have access to advanced study without leaving the UT, opening doors to specialised doctors and meaningful research.
With J&K’s rich biodiversity and wealth of medicinal plants, the region can become a natural hub for Ayurvedic innovation. Disciplines like Panchkarma, Kayachikitsa, and Kaumarbhritya-Bala Roga will strengthen chronic care, preventive health, and child wellness—areas where Ayurveda holds immense promise.
While the NCISM’s approval is only a Letter of Intent, it is vital that infrastructure, hospital facilities, and quality standards are ensured to avoid dilution of Ayurveda’s credibility.
If implemented with integrity, this initiative will not only benefit patients but also create career opportunities for youth, positioning J&K as a leader in holistic healthcare.
