Various KP bodies’ delegation calls on RRC, submits memorandum

JAMMU, Oct 11: The representatives of various Kashmiri Pandit organizations here, today called on Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (RRC), Migrants, Dr Arvind Karwani and discussed the pressing issues being faced by displaced Pandits from Valley with him.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum highlighting the demands to him. It demanded that the database pertaining to Kashmiri migrants needs to be made comprehensive, updated, and fully inclusive.
While demanding that a scheme of cash-in-lieu of ration be introduced and sanctioned for all willing migrant families, as many families are compelled to reside outside Jammu due to livelihood reasons who could not visit Jammu every month to collect ration.
It stressed on the fresh bifurcation to the migrant families registered after 1997 whose registration is now made in non relief category, besides the over aged youth of the community, deserve a structured and sustainable livelihood policy. It demanded that Central Government schemes for self-employment be specifically notified for the migrant community.
Moreover, interest-free loans and financial assistance be made available to them to start their own ventures and startups.
The vacant or available shop spaces, particularly in Jagti Township, be allotted to overaged youth of the community.
It stressed on recalling of Engineering Wing and Utilisation of sanctioned funds and already sanctioned amount of Rs 85 crore for repairs and infrastructure upkeep judiciously.
The delegation further stressed on one-time settlement of pending medical cases, time-bound disposal of pending files, expeditious Installation of Borewells in Jagti Township, improving the living conditions of the PM package employees in Valley.
It demanded that minor corrections or rectifications in the names of students seeking migrant certificates be processed in an expedited manner and a fresh proposal be initiated for extending reservation or a special employment package for eligible youth of the community in Central and UT Government departments.
The delegation stressed on updating of land records and prompt issuance of legal heir certificates, formulation of schemes to pay compensation to displaced Agriculturists and Horticulturists and the compensation for burnt and damaged houses of migrants be immediately released.
