JAMMU, Oct 5: A ‘Thana Diwas’ was organized at the premises of the Police Station Bus Stand under the chairmanship of SHO Inspector Inder Paul Singh.
The meeting witnessed active participation of local stakeholders, including hoteliers, transporters, shopkeepers, travel agency operators, and travel agents, who came together to deliberate on issues of public safety, law and order, and civic discipline.
The gathering primarily focused on maintaining heightened vigilance in view of the prevailing security situation and the forthcoming religious festivals such as Diwali, Karwa Chauth, and Bhai Dooj. Participants were sensitized about the importance of remaining alert and promptly reporting any suspicious activities or persons to the police.
Several key issues were discussed during the interactive session. Concerns were raised over the functionality of CCTV cameras installed within the jurisdiction, with participants urging early repair or replacement of non-functional units to ensure effective surveillance. Traffic congestion caused by unorganized parking and unauthorized roadside vending was also highlighted, with suggestions to streamline parking and remove encroachments for smooth vehicular movement.
Issues related to petty crimes, including incidents of pickpocketing, snatching, thefts, drug peddling, and child begging, were also brought to notice. The SHO assured that increased police patrolling and strategic deployment will be carried out to curb such activities.
Shopkeepers and travel agents were advised to maintain heightened alertness and promptly inform the police about any suspicious movement. Travel agents were further instructed to wear their official identity cards during working hours to ensure transparency and proper identification. Participants also stressed the need to make the Public Announcement (PA) system functional in the area for timely and reliable communication during emergencies.
The SHO assured that all concerns raised would be conveyed to senior officers for necessary and prompt action. The participants expressed satisfaction with the proactive response of the police.
