Bano’s life work is considered a symbol of Kashmir’s rich cultural and historical heritage, organizers said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar and heritage expert Saleem Beigh as chief guests, while G.N. Itoo, Director General, was the guest of honour.
Other prominent attendees included MLA Wagoora-Kreeri, Adbi Markaz Kamraz president Mohammad Amin Bhat, M. Rafiq Masoodi, Advisor, Majlisun Nisa, CEO Kupwara, CEO Bandipora, and others.
In his address, G.N. Itoo lauded Bano’s extraordinary contributions and highlighted the importance of heritage-based learning under the National Education Policy (NEP).
He said, “The NEP clearly states that heritage learning should be an integral part of education.”
Itoo noted that the students should be encouraged to visit cultural and historical sites like Meeras Mahal.
“Such experiences have a far deeper impact than textbooks-helping children connect with their history and identity.”
Calling Meeras Mahal a “treasure of Kashmiri heritage,” Itoo said that the museum preserves the collective memory of Kashmir through its extensive collection of artifacts, manuscripts, and traditional household items.
