Tony seeks SSP-level SIT in Sainik Colony murder case

JAMMU, Oct 4: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, has demanded a high-powered Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an officer of at least SSP rank to probe the Sainik Colony murder and firing case.
In a statement, he said only a fair and professional investigation can restore people’s faith in the system.
While welcoming the DGP’s decision to form an SIT, Tony stressed that reputed and result-oriented officers from diverse backgrounds should be included to ensure transparency.
He alleged that some serving and retired police officers were aware of the unfair practices at the centre where the crime took place and called for a thorough probe into their role.
Tony also accused a few senior officers of trying to scuttle the investigation as they or their relatives were linked to the case.
He claimed that some retired officers could even be the actual owners of the land where illegal activities had been going on for the past 15 months.
“This is nothing but murder of justice. Officers involved must face strict action,” he said.
The Congress leader further alleged that the BJP runs “two sets of laws”-one shielding its leaders and another used against ordinary people.
He cited the cow smuggling case involving a BJP leader and former Jammu Mayor, where an FIR was registered only after two years and court directions.
Accusing the BJP of political misuse of security, Tony said even junior leaders of the party enjoy multiple PSOs while senior opposition leaders remain vulnerable.
He also criticised “divisive propaganda,” saying branding Punjabis as Khalistanis, Bengalis as Bangladeshis, Kashmiris as Pakistanis, and Ladakhis as Chinese is a dangerous trend started by the saffron party.
“This should not happen as such tactics only weaken the national integrity and security,” he said.
