‘Pak indulges in proxy war by radicalisation’

Srinagar, Sept 27 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today warned that the narrative being pushed by The Resistance Front (TRF) on social media has dangerous implications.
Speaking at an event at Tagore Hall in Srinagar, Sinha without naming anyone said that some leaders issue statements and the same are being spread by TRF on social media.
“The narrative is being built due to which we face huge losses at times. I don’t say that they (some leaders) have direct links with them but if the same statements are being spread on TRF social media which we issue, it is very dangerous and we must pay attention to it”, he said.

The LG said that TRF’s online messaging has direct implications on the ground and ignoring it would be dangerous. “If such narratives are being spread on TRF’s social media and we remain silent, it is dangerous,” he said.

Sinha urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to stand united against extremist propaganda to safeguard peace and stability.
The LG said that the fight against terrorism is not the responsibility of security forces alone but people must also play an active role. “More than 40, 000 lives have been lost due to terrorism. It must be completely eradicated not just by the forces but by citizens too. People must come forward,” he added.
He, however, said that there has been transformation in J&K as that stone pelting has become history and local terror recruitment has seen a major decline.
”Schools, colleges and business are functioning like the other parts of the country. No top commander of any major terror outfit is alive now. There has only been a single local recruitment into terror ranks so far this year,” he said.
Referring to Pakistan’s support to terror activities, Sinha said while there are several parameters on which success has been achieved, “unfortunately we have a neighbour who is always up to some mischief”.
“Rather than focussing on building the country after the partition, Pakistan attacked the country, it attacked J&K right after the partition. They fought four direct wars and lost. They have understood that they cannot win a direct war with India. So, they are indulging in proxy war by radicalising people,” he said.
“Whenever there is a division in any family, we must try to put our house in order,” he remarked.
The LG stated that terrorism and left-wing extremism have significantly reduced across the country, especially in the northeast, and expressed confidence that Naxalism too will soon be wiped out.
“Terrorism has been reduced in other parts of the country. North-East is largely terror-free now. The left-wing extremism or Naxalism is now confined to a few districts and I am sure it will be wiped out from the country in the next few months,” he said.
The LG said few areas in Karnataka, Kerala and especially J&K, have been affected by terrorism for a long time now, and it is imperative that terror should be wiped out.
“It is the biggest hurdle to development and creating employment opportunities. Security forces and the administration are doing their job, but the people of Jammu and Kashmir also have a responsibility. They should not indulge in anything that could lead to rise in such activities either intentionally or unintentionally. That causes a lot of problems,” he added.
“J&K has suffered for a long time. The end of terrorism is necessary. Security agencies are doing their job, and we as citizens must behave responsibly and not indulge in any wrong activities,” he said.
He also said that the changes following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 marked a key milestone in J&K’s journey, adding that initiatives like granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Pahari community and implementation of the Forest Rights Act reflect the Government’s commitment to justice and inclusivity.
“Now equal rights are being given to the Pahari community. No one can stop this community. What is their right will be given to them,” he said.
Earlier, the LG said the vision of a sustainable growth and inclusive prosperity will shape a brighter future of tribal community in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said bringing Pahari tribal community to mainstream is commitment of the Centre and their empowerment will build a resilient and prosperous Union Territory. He said this while addressing a gathering of Pahari Tribal Community at Srinagar.
The Lieutenant Governor began his address by recalling historic decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure Scheduled Tribe Status to Pahari Ethnic Groups. He said that empowerment of tribal communities is the top priority of the Central Government.
“There is need for continuous efforts to ensure the development of the community who were provided Scheduled Tribe status by the Parliament last year as their prosperity is fundamentally linked to our inclusive growth goal,” Sinha said.
Responding to the demands put-forth by the representatives of the Pahari community, the Lieutenant Governor said it will be ensured that Pahari Ethnic Groups enjoy their rights as per the act passed by the Parliament.
Muzaffar Hussain Baig, former Deputy Chief Minister; Zafar Iqbal Manhas, former MLC and Chairman, Pahari Welfare Society; Raja Aijaz Ali, Chairman, Pahari Culture and Welfare Forum, various Pahari leaders, prominent personalities and a large number of members from the Pahari tribal community and people from all walks of life were present.
