JAMMU, Sept 27: Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, Ambphalla, here today, observed World Deaf Day by organizing an awareness programme to educate the community on deafness, preventive measures and hearing health.
The chief guest on this occasion was Dr. Sunil Kotwal, Senior ENT Consultant.
The programme was graced by the presence of management committee members-Amar Chand, senior vice president; B.B Gupta, general secretary; Jatinder Gupta, member; Dr. Brij Mohan Gupta, member; Dr. Sachin Gupta, member; Dr. Arvind Kohli, Medical Director; Dr. Yashpal Karsyal, Assistant Medical Superintendent; S. Iqbal Deep Singh, Hospital Manager and Senior Consultants of the hospital.
In his address, Dr. Sunil Kotwal created awareness about ear health and deafness, stressing, if common ear infections are left untreated, they can cause serious complications.
He urged people to seek timely check-ups, proper medication and treatment, while highlighting common ENT issues such as wax impaction, middle ear infections and noise-induced hearing loss.
Dr. Pankaj Gupta, ENT Consultant, delivered an informative session on causes, prevention and management of deafness.
As part of the initiative, the hospital conducted a free audiometric test for patients.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arvind Kohli, Medical Director, said: “Raising awareness about deafness is crucial in breaking stigma, promoting timely intervention and ensuring a better quality of life for individuals with hearing impairments.”
