DODA, Sept 27: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today reviewed the progress of Centrally-sponsored schemes, including Jal Jeevan Mission, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana during the District Coordination and Monitoring Committee meeting (DISHA) here.
The Minister also informed that the much awaited Chattergala tunnel has finally been taken up in the plan and the round the year connectivity provided by it will prove to be a game changer for the region.
During the meeting, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized on effective monitoring and implementation of these schemes and other public welfare programmes. He directed the concerned departments to prioritize essential services like electricity and water, and improving road connectivity in remote areas of the district to ensure that benefits of welfare schemes reach public at the grassroots level.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also directed officials to conduct field visits to review damage to public infrastructure during the recent floods. He called for immediate repair of roads in affected places.
The Union Minister urged the local public representatives to accompany the officers from concerned departments during their visits to villages so that water and power supply and road connectivity are improved. The Minister stated that following inputs from the public, efforts are being made to remove bottlenecks in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Doda.
Dr Singh called for organising awareness camps in villages to maximise enrolment of beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat and PM-Surya Ghar. He also called for popularising One District One Product scheme to boost local economy. On the shortage of doctors at GMC Doda, Dr. Singh suggested adopting contractual arrangements and innovative strategies to address the issue immediately.
Dr Jitendra Singh urged the district administration to ensure saturation of all government schemes, especially those linked to social welfare, health, and rural development. He called for participatory development through active engagement of Panchayati Raj Institutions, DDC members, and local representatives. Dr Jitendra Singh also stressed on promoting local sports, eco-friendly tourism, and environmental sustainability in project execution.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh briefed the Union Minister on the status of ongoing projects. These include the Chatergalla Tunnel, cable car project for promotion of tourism, road and bridge projects under PMGSY, and NHIDCL-led highway upgradation works. The DC informed that Chatergalla project is at an advanced stage. He also informed that around 600 crore rupees have been sanctioned under PMGSY initiatives for Doda District. The issue of land compensation, reimbursement of damages caused by recent rains, and proposals for new tunnels at Bagger and Assar were also discussed during the meeting.
The DISHA meeting was attended by DDC Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal; MLA Doda West, Shakti Rai Parihar; MLA Bhaderwah Daleep Singh Parihar; DDC Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Rani; SSP Doda Sandeep Kumar Mehta, DDC members, district officers, and representatives of the public, who also put their demands and genuine issues before the Minister for redressal.
