JAIPUR, Sep 26: A local court here remanded into 4-day police custody, a suspected spy who was involved in passing to Pakistan secret tip-off about Operation Sindoor and other defence activities in areas along the Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer.
The suspect, Haneef, was brought to Jaipur yesterday after being nabbed from Jaisalmer district.
He was arrested yesterday under the Official Secrets Act 1923 by the CID – Intelligence sleuths, an Intelligence spokesman said after rounds of interrogation here in Jaipur and Jaisalmer. Now, officials of various central, state and military agencies would grill him further.
The suspect was produced this afternoon before the Court that remanded him in police custody for 4 days.
This is the fourth arrest of a Pakistan agent from the Jaisalmer border during the current year
In the questioning so far, it has been revealed that he had been indulging in passing on secret defence – military related information to Pakistani agencies for quite some time, he used to share information on army movements or other vital clues about defence installations to his Pak handlers through social media platforms, the spokesman said.
Haneef (47) was also in touch with Pakistan agencies and handlers during the Operation Sindoor and shared information on the operation-related affairs that were known to him, the spokesman added.
A native of Bahla village in the vicinity of the international border, the suspect presently lives in Basanpeer Juni Sadar village of Mohangarh (Jaisalmer) and is familiarised well with the locations and places in this border sector.
