JAMMU, Sept 20: An Army jawan, who was seriously injured in an encounter at Seoj Dhar on Udhampur-Doda border last night, succumbed to his injuries this morning while security forces continued search operations for the terrorists.

The martyr has been identified as Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand. He was injured late last night when the terrorists opened firing on a joint patrolling party of the Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) at Kanji in Seoj Dhar forest, between the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur and Bhaderwah in Doda district.
Injured soldier was shifted to a hospital where he attained martyrdom.
The area around the scene of the encounter was kept under tight cordon during the night and a combing operation was resumed this morning and extended to new areas during the day to track down the terrorists. Click here to watch video
The officials said reinforcements were mobilized from both Doda and Udhampur and drones and sniffer dogs were also deployed to speed up the search operation.
However, there was no fresh contact with the terrorists during the day.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today paid tribute to Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand, who attained martyrdom in Seoj Dhar gun battle.
Sinha honoured the Indian Army personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the ongoing operations against the terrorists.
“Salute to the indomitable courage of braveheart Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand, who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation during the anti-terror operation in Udhampur. The grateful nation will forever be indebted to his valour and unwavering commitment to duty,” Sinha said.
He expressed solidarity with the family of the martyr during this difficult time.
The Army also paid rich tribute to the fallen soldier and said “we stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief”.
“GOC (General Officer Commanding) of White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Lance Dafadar Chand, who made the supreme sacrifice during an ongoing operation on the night of September 19 and 20,” the Army said in a post on X.
