KISHTWAR, Sept 20: Border Roads Organisation (BRO) here today reopened the vital Galhar-Sansari and Tiyari-Ishtyari roads on Jammu-Himachal border.
These roads remained close for weeks together due to massive landslides triggered by relentless rainfall.
The move has brought long-awaited relief to several border villages that were virtually cut-off from rest of the world.
The devastation began on August 24, 2025 following a week of torrential downpour that loosened mountain slopes, set off multiple landslides and washed away portions of road formations.
Vital connectivity to the villages of Tiyari, Ishtyari and Swas came to a grinding halt while with blocked roads the locals were left to fend for themselves struggling for daily supplies and emergency medical access.
Acting swiftly, the Swas Detachment of 118 Road Construction Company (RCC) under Project Sampark of 35 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) Udhampur moved in with heavy machinery.
“Our primary objective was immediate clearance of debris to restore connectivity as quickly as possible,” said a BRO official describing how excavators, dozers and rock breakers were pressed into service for round the clock.
With the tireless efforts of the teams led by OC-118 RCC, Jivitesh and executed under the overall supervision of Commander S.K Singh, 35 BRTF, the operation was wrapped up in record time.
The boulders were broken through, rubble was swept aside and the lifeline roads were thrown open for much-needed traffic, reconnecting scattered villages with rest of the region.
As the first vehicle rolled back on the stretch, locals of the area heaved a sigh of relief.
“We were stuck without essential supplies for days together. The efforts of BRO soldiers to clear the road have truly lifted us out of despair,” said a local, applauding round the clock slog by BRO.
Now, with Galhar-Sansari and Tiyari-Ishtyari alignments back in service, authorities say the lifeline has been restored giving the residents much-needed respite.
