Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Itoo said the system was back on track after last year’s disruptions. “Yes, all the exams will be on time. Last time, we changed the session, and it was a big challenge to ensure exams and books were delivered on schedule. But thanks to Allah, everything is on time this year, and the exams will be held on time,” she said.
On the upcoming winter session, the Minister said changes in school timings are a routine adjustment. “Whenever summer comes, the timing changes, and in winter, because of the cold, timings change naturally. If children feel the need for a change in the future, it will also be done,” she said.
Acknowledging academic losses, Itoo said students had suffered due to a series of disruptions. “There has been a war-like situation, heatwaves and flood-like conditions that forced repeated school closures. Many schools in Jammu and Kashmir were badly affected, and children’s studies suffered a lot,” she said. The Government, she added, was seeking suggestions from the public to decide measures to compensate for the loss.
The Minister also chaired a review meeting of Srinagar district earlier in the day, attended by eight MLAs, including Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mubarak Gul, Ahsan Pardesi, Tanvir Sadiq, Salman Sagar, and Shamima Firdous. The meeting discussed issues raised by the Deputy Commissioner, including incomplete projects, hospital access roads, PHE and road works, and flood mitigation.
“Some projects proposed in 2014 are still pending. Even a little rain creates a flood-like situation. We need to work on these projects so people do not suffer,” she said.
The Minister further highlighted concerns about vacancies in the Health Department, acknowledging the contributions of National Health Mission (NHM) employees. She said the Jammu and Kashmir Government had written to the Centre seeking an increase in their honorarium and better regularization measures.
