JAMMU, Sept 18: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today visited several rain and flood-affected villages in Nagrota Assembly Constituency to take stock of the situation.
Sadhotra toured Sadi Kala, Sadi Khurd, Jakhan, Soura, Lipera and Sahanoo villages, which were hit by torrential rains, flash floods and cloudbursts, and interacted with the locals to assess the damage. He assured them that their concerns regarding losses and hardships would be taken up with the administration on priority.
The NC leader said the recent rains have caused widespread devastation, badly impacting road connectivity, power supply, water sources and residential houses in Nagrota and adjoining areas. To ensure timely redressal, he held telephonic conversations with the Chief Engineers of Roads & Buildings (R&B), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Power and the Director of Rural Development. He urged them to expedite restoration works in the remote belts, including reconnecting the cut-off habitations from Jindrah to Sadi Gali road leading to Kali Mata Ji at Karai Dhar Narsoola.
Sadhotra emphasized the urgent need for restoring power lines, drinking water facilities and damaged road networks, particularly those leading to Gujjar and Bakerwal bastis that remain dependent on connectivity for essential supplies. He also underlined the importance of repair works around the revered Mata Kali shrine, which draws large gatherings of devotees.
While acknowledging the ongoing efforts of the administration, Sadhotra said the measures taken so far are in line with the directives of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has called for prompt, people-centric action. He expressed hope that departments would pool resources to speed up restoration and help bring normalcy at the earliest.
Reiterating NC’s commitment to public welfare, Sadhotra said the party has always stood by the people in testing times. He urged the administration to adopt a compassionate approach towards the affected families by extending maximum relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction support.
