Fruit-laden trucks from Kashmir were stranded for days due to the closure of the crucial highway following heavy rains and landslides.
The 270 km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was reopened last week, but only for light motor vehicles.
“Our aim is to clear maximum number of stranded vehicles which are loaded with fruits,” SSP, NH Adil Ganai said.
He said all the stranded vehicles along the highway and those waiting at the fruit Mandis will be cleared on priority basis.
Adil said the drivers should follow the traffic advisory with regard to movement of heavy vehicles and avoid overtaking along the highway.
He said with rain in the evening, the 250 mts road stretch at Thrad near Udhampur turned slippery with mud. The trucks were moving slowly towards Jammu and the highway was clear.
He said the fruits laden 6-wheel trucks were operating for the last several days via Mughal Road.
Meanwhile, Divisional Magistrate Bani has imposed restriction on movement of traffic on Bani- Basohli Road within the territorial jurisdiction of the Sub Division from 06:00 pm to 6:00 am.
The move has been taken for the safety of commuters keeping in view the extensive damage caused to the road after recent heavy rains, besides facilitating the renovation work being executed by GREF.
“Vehicular movement on Bani-Basohli road shall be prohibited from 6 pm to 6 am, unless permitted by the undersigned in cases of exigency. No person shall ply on the said road during restricted timings in any manner whatsoever without permission. The concerned authorities, including Police and GREF shall ensure strict enforcement of this order,” read the order.
