Thousands pray at Hazratbal on Friday following Milad

SRINAGAR, Sept 12: Thousands thronged the Dargah Hazratbal today on the occasion of the Friday following Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
Men, women and children participated in the congregational prayers and prayed for peace and harmony to prevail in Jammu and Kashmir.
After the prayers, the Holy Relic of the Prophet (PBUH) was displayed to the devotees, during which emotional scenes were witnessed.
The relic was displayed to people after every prayer throughout the day.
The main event marking Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) was observed on Saturday.
Traditionally, the Friday following the occasion is also observed at the Dargah, attracting large gatherings of people from across Kashmir.
“I was here earlier as well and came again today to pray and to witness the glimpse of the Holy Relic. It is a soothing experience. People like me eagerly wait for such occasions,” said Rafiq Ahmad, a devotee from the old city.
National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also offered Friday prayers at Hazratbal.

On the occasion, he too had the honour of witnessing the sacred glimpse of the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) after the congregational prayers.
He prayed for peace, prosperity and happiness for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, accompanied him.
Similar gatherings were held at several shrines and mosques across Kashmir, including Asar Sharif Shahr-e-Kalashpora, Asar Sharif Jenab Sahab Soura, Lal Bazar, Syed Yaqoob Sahab Sonwar and Makhama Beerwah in Budgam.
Large gatherings on the occasion have also been reported from other districts including, Pinjoora in Shopian, Khiram Sirhama and Seer Hamadan in Anantnag, Kaba Marg Qaimoh in Kulgam, Khanqah-e-Faiz Panah in Tral, and Aham Sharief in Bandipora.
Religious scholars and clerics, in their sermons, urged people to follow the path shown by the Prophet (PBUH), stressing compassion, humility and service to humanity.
They said the way of the Prophet (PBUH) is the only way to achieve closeness with the Almighty and find success both in this world and the hereafter.
“These occasions are a call for people to renew their faith and to understand what Islam and the Prophet (PBUH) truly teach,” said a cleric.
On the occasion, the district administration and the Waqf Board had put in place necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the gatherings, while the Traffic Police devised a route plan to manage the heavy rush of vehicles heading towards the shrine.
