JAMMU, Sept 10: In yet another case of grave regional discrimination hitting Jammu, the urban local body, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), is still awaiting the approval for remaining about 50 per cent of its CAPEX budget money while the same for its counterpart Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been released much back.
Highly reliable sources informed that this remaining amount is to the tune of about Rs. 26 crore for JMC for which even the required approval has not been yet given by the concerned authorities while the same for SMC has been fully released long back after which tendering work has also been done there and the developmental works in this regard by SMC will start within days.
They further informed that in the absence of these funds, development works in Jammu city will suffer on one hand and there is also full possibility that Jammu will be losing this big amount which was meant for urban infrastructure development.
Insiders informed that the CAPEX money released to SMC was to the tune of about Rs. 46 crore.

It is pertinent to mention here that the recent devastating cloudbursts, flash floods and heavy rains in most parts of Jammu region have badly damaged the infrastructure wherein roads, streets, lanes, drains and other vital infrastructure in Jammu city was also badly hit and restoration of all this is urgently required to bring the derailed system back on the track.
Insiders engaged with the restoration works informed that though temporary restoration of roads, streets and other infrastructure will be completed soon but for the permanent restoration a proposal has been sent to the J&K Housing Department.
“If JMC receives the pending of Rs. 26 crore of CAPEX budget money, then the priority developmental works it will start will include raising of retaining walls at vulnerable Nallahs which pose grave repeated threats during rains,” reliable sources informed adding: “Repair of pits which have been developed on the roads during the recent heavy rains and flash floods apart from improving water supply schemes will be done next as the water supply systems have been only temporarily restored in Jammu city and the same may collapse anytime.”
They also said that an additional proposal of Rs. 60 crore has also been sent separately to the J&K UT Government for repairing and restoring the infrastructure damaged by the recent flash floods and heavy rains in Jammu city but so far not even a penny has been released in this regard.
