JAMMU, Sept 8: The week-long Shrimad Bhagwat Katha commenced today at Shiv Temple, Sector 5-7, Trikuta Nagar (Jammu), with a large number of devotees in attendance.
The programme, which will continue till September 14, is being held daily from 3 PM to 7 PM under the spiritual guidance of Shri Ram Sakha Ji Maharaj (Kanahaji) of Vrindavan, who is renowned for his soulful narration of scriptures.
The inaugural day witnessed the recitation of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahaatmya Katha and Shukdev-Pareekshit Charitra, setting a deeply devotional tone for the series of events lined up for the week.
The temple premises were decorated with flowers and lights, while the air reverberated with melodious bhajans, chants of “Hare Krishna Hare Ram,” and the sound of traditional instruments, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere. Devotees, including men, women, and children, participated with great enthusiasm, many of them seen offering prayers and seeking blessings with folded hands.
The atmosphere inside the temple resonated not only with devotional music but also with the collective faith of the gathering, as people from different parts of Jammu assembled to witness the auspicious beginning. Several prominent persons, including MLA Gandhi Nagar Vikram Randhawa, attended the event.
Randhawa interacted with devotees and stressed the importance of such events in preserving India’s rich cultural and religious traditions, noting that the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha continues to be a guiding light for society.
According to the organizers, the programme will continue with day-wise themes. Tomorrow, the Katha will focus on Mangala Charan and the birth of King Pareekshit, followed by Vidur and Dhruv Charitra on September 10. The narration of Narsingh Avtar, Vaman Avtar, and Ram Janm is scheduled for September 11, while Krishna Bal Leela, Govardhan Puja and Chhappar Mahotsav will be observed on September 12.
On September 13, devotees will listen to episodes on Maharas, Mathura Gaman, Gopi-Uddhav Samvad and Rukmini Vivah. The concluding day, September 14, will feature Sudama Charitra, Shukdev Viragya, Phool Holi and a community Bhandara.
