JAMMU, Sept 5: Vitasta Tryodashi commonly known as Vyeth Truvah the birthday of Goddess Vitasta was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety today.
In this connection functions were held at the origin of river Vitasta in Verinag and at Muthi Ghat here. While the function at Vitasta spring commonly known as Vethvatur Nag at Verinag was organised by Vitasta Devasthan Prabandhak Committee, Verinag, at Muthi Gaht the function was organised by Panun Kashmir.
At the Vitasta Spring a Maha Yagya was also performed as usual which concluded with Puranahuti this afternoon. The flag hoisting was also done in a traditional manner at the shrine. The function was held under the chairmanship of Ashok Ji Koul president of the Committee and its general secretary, R K Bhat.
R K Bhat while talking to media said that despite inclement weather and floods the function was held with great fevour and devotees drawn from different parts of the Valley and Jammu attended the function. He demanded that the shrine be restored and the encroachments made by PHE in this holy spring be removed immediately.
To celebrate the day, Panun Kashmir organised a function at Muthi Ghat here. For centuries, this river has symbolized the continuous flow of Kashmiri civilization, nurturing a land that became the cradle of the illustrious Sharda culture.
While speaking on the occasion, president Panun Kashmir (PK) Virender Raina said that it was on the banks of Vitasta that the spiritual and intellectual brilliance of Kashmir reached its zenith. From Abhinavagupta, the profound philosopher and aesthete, to Kalhana, the father of Indian historiography, and Lal Ded, the mystic poetess-these extraordinary figures embodied the eternal message of love, wisdom, and sublime philosophy that still inspires the world. Prof. Shiban Bhat said that Vitasta and its sister river Chandrabhaga (Chenab) are not merely water bodies but civilizational symbols. For KPs , especially in exile, Vitasta Diwas has become a day of remembrance and hope.
Prof. Virender Rawal said civilizations survive not by power alone, but by preserving culture, language, and spiritual traditions.
Prof. Ramesh Bhat said that as the community prepares to celebrate Vitasta Tryodashi this year, the prayers carry a singular aspiration-that the day will soon come when this festival will once again be observed on the banks of the Jhelum in Kashmir.
The proceeding were conducted by Kamal Bagati general secretary Org) and Sameer Bhat convener P.K Youth administered the oath to the audience to keep the struggle of homeland alive. Virender Koul presented vote of thanks.
