JAMMU, Sept 5: In a scathing criticism of the Omar Abdullah-led Government, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Gulam Ali Khatana today accused the Chief Minister of complete administrative failure in handling the recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in vulnerable areas across Jammu region.
During an extensive tour of flood-hit areas including Lower Dawda, Lau Ragude, Gujjar Nagar, Jogi Gate, Makwal Camp, Haji Naka and Gau Shala Swajan, Khatana interacted with displaced families, inspected collapsed homes and took stock of the devastation.
“The devastation here is not just a natural calamity but also a political failure,” Khatana asserted. “The Chief Minister has not even declared this a natural disaster. By refusing to acknowledge the gravity of the situation, Omar Abdullah has abandoned his own people and left them to suffer without relief.”
Locals shared their pain and losses-homes washed away, livestock drowned and crops destroyed-with no visible relief from the administration. Many complained of delayed rescue efforts, inadequate relief supplies and poor coordination among departments.
Khatana was accompanied by a delegation of senior BJP leaders and community representatives, including Ex-Chairman Razak Ali Putto, BJP Block President Amar Jeet Kour, Ch. Abdul Mehmood, Ashraf Chodhary, Aisf Gill, Poran Singh Chib, Haji Salam Din, Fakeer Ali, Kulbir Singh, Ex-Sarpanch Balbir Singh, Nagar Singh, Dhanter Singh, Alam Din, Bilal, Mushtaq Ahmed, Noor Hussain and Mohd Rafiq.
Senior officials from various departments, including RDD, ACD, ACP, BDOs, Revenue, PWD, Police and the Army, also briefed the MP on the ongoing relief efforts. While praising the dedication of frontline workers, Army and police personnel, Khatana emphasized that the absence of political will and leadership from the Omar-led Government has worsened the people’s suffering.
“The BJP will not remain silent. I will raise this issue in Parliament and at every forum until justice and relief reach every affected household,” he assured, demanding immediate financial assistance, rehabilitation and declaration of affected areas as disaster zones.
